When someone is exploring the CIM and can't find what is expected, what then? |

Within EA, you can search for any text string and filter the search for package, class, attribute, etc. That helps novices uncover where else a particular attribute may be modeled. If that doesn't work, submit a help desk request. |

How do you understand whether a definition in CIM is applicable to your use case – and how do you know whether that definition is the same as someone with whom you are planning to exchange data? This relates to the discussion of language translations mentioned yesterday. |

EDF sees translation as necessary to achieve adoption of CIM within their environment. The same may be true for other users. Utilities who adopt CIM will need to iron these things out within their own environment. However, it was noted that the more utilities buy from vendors that have taken their products through interop testing, the more likely it is these issues have been ironed out. Each language complements understanding and helps us to be precise. We do have international representation on the working groups…most major language groups are represented. Note the Chinese have translated everything. They have offered to send us the Chinese versions…and we could post them. The CIM Model Manager function also helps turn up inconsistencies, or poor definitions. |
